About us

Molecular biotechnology combines two important aspects of modern biology: molecular methods and their technological implementation. It aims to develop and industrially apply solutions to currently relevant problems in a wide range. These include u. novel methods for the diagnosis and therapy of diseases, efficient use of bio-resources for environmental and energy problems, and the creation of biological potential for the food and chemical industries.

In teaching, the Department of Molecular Biotechnology at the TDU primarily aims to provide its students with a solid and general basis in all modern subjects of biology. In the bachelor's program "Molecular Biotechnology", the subjects taught are biochemistry, molecular biology and genetics, cell and microbiology, bioinformatics and biotechnology. In addition, the analytical fundamentals that are important for engineering are taught and supplemented in subjects such as physics, mathematics or programming. A unique point is the aspired high connection to Germany in research and teaching through regular exchange programs with the partner universities, above all the University of Potsdam.

The research focus of our department is in the field of medical biotechnology. Here we deal with issues related to novel diagnostic methods and therapeutic approaches for human diseases in a broad spectrum from microbial infections to neurodegenerative diseases.
